Health and Safety at Work Act 1974

Before 1974 approximately 8 million employees had no legal safety protection at work. The Health and Safety Act 1974 provides the legal framework to promote, stimulate and encourage high standards of health and safety in places of work. It protects employees and the public from work activities. Everyone has a duty to comply with the Act, including employers, employees, trainees, self-employed, manufactures and suppliers.

Following Lucy Letby, 71% of doctors say whistleblowing damages careers: Video

A majority of doctors believe raising safety concerns damages their careers, according to a new survey. Following the case of Lucy Letby, the hospital doctors' union - the Hospital Consultants and Specialists Association (HCSA) - surveyed more than 500 consultants. 71% of them said it isn’t possible to raise patient safety concerns without harming their careers.

Vaping: New measures to crack down on illegal sale of e-cigarettes to teenagers

Plans to make it more difficult for children to illegally buy e-cigarettes in England are to be laid out by the government. An enforcement squad made up of trading standards officers will be set up to carry out test purchases and clamp down on shops selling vapes to under-18s. The Department of Health says it will allocate £3m to tackle the issue.

More staff found to be practising illegally as social workers, says regulator
