Event of the week/month

Men’s Health Awareness Month 2023 (1st November- November 30th)

Often rereferred to as Movember, it is an annual global campaign that encourages men to grow mustaches and participate in activities to raise awareness about men’s health issues. Movember has funded numerous men’s health projects and initiatives and has become a symbol of solidary and awareness. Read more about Movember here:

Farrer & Co have published a podcast to discuss the rising number of queries from schools relating to students with a confirmed or possible ADHD/ASD diagnoses. The podcast explores a range of issues including students taking assessments and supporting students and teachers.

Death of couple from Neglect leads to changes by Cumbria’s Safeguarding Adults Board

A review into the deaths has led to changes in how cases are dealt with in the future. The pair had refused help despite both needing extra assistance. The review highlighted a number of issues and ways they can improve such as building relationships and working with resistance to care and strategic responses to self neglect.

Headteachers reluctant to report child sexual abuse in schools, a report finds

A report into child sexual abuse in Britain’s schools has been concluded. It found that “despite 20 years of enhanced focus on safeguarding, our schools are not as safe for children as they should be”

Sex offenders are using virtual reality to ‘groom and abuse children’

Offenders are using VR to groom and sexually abuse children, as well as share illegal images of abuse according to research. The report said that VR and immersive technologies are being used by offenders not only to interact with children, but also to simulate acts of abuse

Taking care of key workers
