Working definition of trauma-informed practice
Trauma-informed approaches have become increasingly cited in policy and adopted in practice as a means for reducing the negative impact of trauma experiences and supporting mental and physical health outcomes. They build on evidence developed over several decades. However, there has been a lack of consensus within the health and social care sector on how trauma-informed practice is defined, what its key principles are and how it can be built into services and systems.

How social media helps you stay connected to your GP Practice or Pharmacy
We all want to feel well, both mentally and physically. But what feeling well means - especially in terms of mental health - varies for each of us. We all need different things to feel our best.
When you break a limb, it's often fairly clear from an X-ray or doing an examination how bad the break is. But when you're feeling low, anxious or experiencing a flare-up of your mental health condition, it's harder to express or measure how bad it is.
We all have different perceptions of our wellbeing and ability to cope, as well as various definitions of what constitutes 'good' or 'bad' mental health.

What is 'good mental health'?
Heading to the coast or out on the water is a great way to have fun and stay active. But, if you're not careful, it's a lot easier to get into trouble in the water than you might think. Conditions can change quickly and if you're not prepared, you can easily get caught out.
We've collected all our advice here, so you can find the information you need. Whether you're going to the beach, exploring the coast, or venturing out onto the water, we have the sea safety advice to help you stay safe.

How to start a new fitness routine this autumn
If you've had a summer of BBQs, al fresco dinners and lazy weekends in the sun, then, like a lot of us, your exercise regime may have fallen by the wayside. Now the weather is cooling down and children are back at school, this is the perfect time of year to get back into a routine and set some fitness goals.
The benefits of exercising are wide-ranging, from improved mental health to a lower likelihood of serious diseases, but still many of us spend too much of our lives sitting and lying.
According to Sport England, around one third of the UK population aren't meeting the government recommendations for physical activity.

Cost of place in children’s care homes in England hits almost £320,000 a year
The cost of a single place in a residential children’s care home in England has nearly doubled in five years to an average £318,000 a year, with private firms racking up huge profits as a result of market failure, according to the public spending watchdog.
The £3bn children’s homes market, which is increasingly dominated by private firms, some funded by private equity, is “dysfunctional” and too often fails to deliver a good service for youngsters or value for money, a National Audit Office (NAO) report said.

Key oceans treaty crosses threshold to come into force
A global agreement designed to protect the world's oceans and reverse damage to marine life is set to become international law.
The High Seas Treaty received its 60th ratification by Morocco on Friday, meaning that it will now take effect from January.
The deal, which has been two decades in the making, will pave the way for international waters to be placed into marine protected areas. Environmentalists heralded the milestone as a "monumental achievement" and evidence that countries can work together for environmental protection.
