New Employer Incentive Rules Revealed

Updated: Feb 24, 2021

The ESFA have published the rules of the new employer incentive scheme for employers who hire new apprentices. This was part of the announcements from the Chancellor last week on boosting the economy.

From August 2020 until the 31st January 2021, businesses taking on new apprentices will be rewarded with £2,000 for a 16 to 24 year-old and £1,500 for anyone aged 25 or over. The staff members must be new staff, and 'must not have been employed by the employer within the six months prior to the contract start date'. The employer will receive payment as long as the apprentice is still employed by them at day 90 and day 365.

Unlike the existing employer incentive for hiring apprentices, this one requires the employer to claim directly from the Apprenticeship Service online. Any employer who wants to claim this incentive must let Quest Training know at the beginning of the IAG process, and must submit a cohort via the Apprenticeship Service before paperwork is completed. Due to the different apprenticeship funding, Quest will not be able to change the funding if later notified.

Information on how to create an Apprenticeship Service account can be found here.

Here at Quest we know recruitment can be difficult. Quest can take the pressure off with our dedicated recruitment team. We are able to advertise for you, assist with funding and employment questions, allowing you to focus on selecting the perfect candidate for your team. Give us a call on 01474 704441 or use the contact form for more details on how Quest can help you.

UPDATE: The ESFA have extended the employer incentive until the end of March 2021. Please contact us if you wish to start your apprentice with the employer incentive grant during February 2021 and March 2021.
